It’s come to my attention that in the process of being politically correct, the (Western) world has now gone stir crazy over accomodating everybody’s religion and are scared of offending anyone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas.
…who bloody cares what people think?
While I’m not all for the whole Jesus Christ, our divine Messiah thing, Christmas…is CHRISTMAS. Call it what you want, Hannukah, Chrismakah blah blah blah, it’s really all about getting together with your family/friends etc. and getting completely BLIND. At least, that’s what true blue Aussies really do. They also have a barbeque and play backyard cricket, the next day, the blokes get up and watch the Boxing Day Test. That’s the whole point of the day.
All this rubbish about offending Muslims because they don’t celebrate it is stupid. In a democracy where most people are Christian, they can come barging in and force the population to say “Season’s Greetings” instead of “Merry Christmas” is just completely pointless. Of course, if anyone went to a Muslim nation and demanded Ramadan be called something else politically correct and accomodating to other cultures would be killed in a very NASTY fashion.
Why can’t we all just remember what we should be doing? Forget the religious crap, forget it’s even Holy to people. Remember that it was this day that some humans decided should represent hope, peace and a day to be happy. Whether that’s getting blind drunk with your friends and family or curling up with a good book or watching The Panel’s special on Channel 10, we should all enjoy it. Oh…and by the way, were it not for Christmas, we’d all be stuck working, since it’s just another day. If we were really politically correct, we’d stop having public holiday on December 25. That’ll really stop people celebrating it.
